Procrastination and You

Singing the procrastination blues these days? But maybe not so sure how to start the turnaround? Since procrastination is a pretty tough dude, not to mention ugly, mean, and nasty besides.

True enough. But any one of us—including yourself—can start whipping its a** with the tools at this site. Some of these you already know but may simply have forgotten. Others you may never have considered. But they can all help you overcome a procrastination habit.

One remarkable tool, always at your disposal, is small steps. Often fairly painless, often remarkably effective as well, these steps could actually be the real “Secret” to getting/doing/being what you want.

Think of them as turtle tracks, modest (but consistent) steps moving you steadily ahead. By applying such steps to whatever has you stalled, you can gradually turn that obstacle into toast. As well as the next one and the next...

To begin the process, though, you'll have to take some kind of first step—whatever it might be and however bold or modest. That initial step then leads you to another you can take, and to another and still another. Little by little, toehold by toehold, you'll eventually arrive at your destination.

Whether you’re procrastinating on a broad goal, a task, a dream, or a decision, just do one little thing that feels like a constructive action. Even the smallest possible steps beat twiddling your thumbs while you wait for all of your ducks to assemble magically in a row.

Why? Because one or two of those ducks may never show up. So work with a duck you’ve already got. Take the step. Do something, however slight, to get yourself started. That will lead you to another step and then another, etc. Pretty soon—shazzam!—you’re rolling.

Click the link for a simple description of the small-steps process: Tackling procrastination. When even small steps don't seem to do the trick, step back from the issue and ask yourself why you're procrastinating. Click here to consider some possibilities.

You can get on top of this, you know. Sometimes it may be a pretty big challenge to hang in there, but it's do-able. And by you IF you're clear about the direction you want to take.

If you are not, give our free goal-setting tool a try, and sort some things out. Totally online, the "tool" allows you to move at your own pace—whenever and however you wish. What you discover (or rediscover) might surprise you.

Or, just hang around here for a while and see how you like it. The turtle loves company. Either scroll back up to the navigation bar or click here to check out recent posts.
